Moon halos with Jupiter and Orion

These were taken not too long after I got home from work. Normally I photograph complex halo displays but I could no resist the sight of seeing Jupiter inside the halo along with Orion. Near the moon the appears to be a faint trace of a 9d halo but I think its a lense flare.

Pyramidal halos Sept 13th 2012

While at the Herb Erwin Old Tyme Festival Cirrus clouds were moving in and first a common 22d halo with circumscribed halo formed but then more smoother cirrus came and thats when I noticed a double halo and the double was 23d halo and 18d halo. Close to the sun was a weak 9d halo. As the clouds moved in up to 5 circular halos were visible. In all there was 9, 18,22,24, and 46d halos. A couple pics show what could be a 35d halo but cannot be sure. There was also upper 23d plate arc and 18d plate arcs. The last two pics show iridescence in the vapor plume from the barrel of a pumpkin chunker cannon

Lunar halo complex September 30th 2012

Late in the evening halos began to appear around the sun but the best came when the moon came up and the display began with 22 degree halo, parhelia, circumscribed halo, 120 degree parhelia and complete parhelic circle. The display reached its climax at 12:00 AM EST and one of the best complete circumscribed halos I have seen in a very long time formed. The circumscribed halos was so bright I could see the colors with the naked eye due to the full moon and hi-quality column crystals. There was also a sharp complete parhelic circle and in the pics enhanced faint upper and lower concave parry arcs are visible.

Northern Lights over Lake Archibald Wisconsin 2012

On my last day at Wisconsin the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) tipped south solar wind poured in and got a colorful Northern Lights display. Started out as a featurless curtain that was green purple and maroon and around midnight it turned into a fluidly moving curtain of rays. To the naked eyes the aurora were grayish in color but a 25-30 sec exposure showed different. I love the peak when the green and purple rays moved about a graceful site which remined me of being on Pandora on James Cameroons AVATAR.

Dewbow in a spiderweb

Sometimes rainbows can be found in spider's webs like this one. NOTE: There are interference arcs visible inside the bow as well. I have other images that show double dewbows that need to be resized.

Reflected light bow from a window

Heres another bow from a reflected light source in this case a large picture window and the reflected light bow segment is inside the primary on the right side

Homemade reflected light rainbow

I know these are old pics from back in 2002 but this is one of my more interesting garden hose rainbows. I already knew that light reflected off a water surface will create reflected light rainbows. At the time we had a swimming pool in the yard and the sun was hitting it perfectly and I sprayed a cloud of mist into the air and not only did I see primary and secondary bows but higher up I could see the reflected-light primary bow.
